Introduction
When it comes to marine seating, performance and longevity begin with proper installation and routine care. Springfield Marine’s Mariner™, Mariner II™, and Workhorse II™ slides are engineered for smooth, adjustable support and are built to endure tough marine environments. Whether you’re rigging a commercial vessel or upgrading a weekend ride, this guide will help you get the most from your Springfield Marine seat slide system.
Installation Guide
Step 1: Secure the Slide to the Seat
Attach the slide to the seat bottom using hardware provided or recommended by the seat manufacturer. The Swivel Lock Handle (Item #2) should face the rear of the seat for proper orientation.
Step 2: Mount the Slide to the Pedestal
Loosen the Swivel Tension Handle (Item #1) to allow the seat slide to fit over the pedestal. Pull out on the Swivel Lock Handle, lower the slide onto the pedestal until fully seated, then rotate the seat until the handle locks into one of the pedestal’s slots.
For Workhorse II slides: Ensure the composite washer in the swivel cup is in place before mounting. Use marine-grade grease to hold it in position during installation.
Step 3: Final Tightening
Tighten the Swivel Tension Handle. Note that Mariner and Mariner II models only use this handle during installation. Workhorse II slides use this handle for regular swivel operation.
How to Operate Your Slide System
To Rotate Your Seat (Mariner & Mariner II):
Pull out the Swivel Handle (Item #3), rotate the seat to one of the 8 locking positions, then release the handle. To enable free-spin, pull the handle, rotate it 90° counterclockwise, and release. To re-engage locking, rotate it 90° clockwise.
To Rotate Your Seat (Workhorse II):
Loosen the Swivel Tension Handle, pull the Swivel Lock Handle, rotate to one of 2 locking positions, and release. The handle can also be rotated 90° counterclockwise to enable free-spin mode.
To Slide Seat Forward or Back (All Models):
Pull the Slide Lock Handle (Item #4), move the seat to the desired position, and release.
To Adjust Height (with Mainstay Pedestals):
Use the Air-Ride Adjustment Handle (Item #5). Refer to the Mainstay operation sheet for specific instructions.

Maintenance Tips for Long-Term Performance
Even though Springfield slides are designed for low maintenance, periodic checks help ensure long-lasting performance.
1. Inspect Handles and Pins:
Check the various operating handles to ensure that they are screwed in tightly and operate smoothly. The handle assemblies are greased using N.L.G.I #2 marine grade lithium grease. Check to ensure that the grease has not hardened or drawn in contaminants. Any excess grease showing on the pin when it is locked should be cleaned off. Should the handles become difficult to pull out a small amount of Silver Grade Anti-Seize such as LocTite 76764 can be applied to the end of the pin. This will require removal of the handle assembly by unscrewing it from the slide.
2. Mariner and Mariner II only:
For Mariner and Mariner II slides ensure that the Swivel Tension Pin is tight at all times. Workhorse II slides require loosening of the handle for operation and only require the handle to be tight when desired
3. Workhorse II only:
For Workhorse II slides there is a composite washer that separates the swivel from the top of the pedestal. Any time the slide is removed from the pedestal ensure that this washer is reinstalled into the bottom of the swivel. N.L.G.I #2 marine grade lithium grease can be used to hold it in place during installation and will allow the slide to rotate smoothly.
4. Check Fasteners:
Although slides are assembled with thread locker, check bolts and screws periodically to ensure everything stays secure.
5. Adjust Rotational Tension (Mariner & Mariner II only):
Use the three set screws on the swivel cover to fine-tune seat rotation resistance. Loosen the jam nuts, adjust the screws to the desired tension, then re-tighten the nuts.

When to Replace Your Slide
Over time, even the most durable marine seat slides wear down. Here are signs it may be time to replace:
- Difficulty rotating or sliding
- Visible corrosion or worn components
- Excessive seat wobble
- Locking mechanisms not engaging properly
If you’re experiencing these issues, it’s time to upgrade your seat slide for safety and comfort.
